I’d like to tell you the inspiration for this weekly newsletter comes easily. The reality is it comes when I least expect it. These past few weeks consisted of many medical appointments for me and family. Fortunately, they were for “well” visits.

Medical professionals work long hours to serve those in need. There are routine visits and there are ones that have immediate need. This week involved a regular visit to my ophthalmologist to check my eyes. The month before it was the check-in with the retinal specialist. In 2019, I was surprised with a retinal detachment. I was fortunate to have it repaired quickly and it entailed a lengthy recovery that required an eye patch. A few years later, it was a cataract in the same eye. Six months later, the other eye started to experience “floaters” which is what precipitated the original retinal detachment. A timely visit to the retinal specialist the next day enabled the doctor to use a laser to correct the issue and avoid another surgery. I consider myself very lucky to have my issues corrected by these elite eye specialists.

Medical professionals go through extensive study and residency in their area of expertise. Their path to homeownership can take longer as they establish themselves in their field and pay down debt. Lenders recognize the contributions that medical professionals bring to the community. There are loan programs that allow them to obtain 100% financing to buy a home. Cash is often the impediment to them buying a home sooner. Medical professionals eligible for 100% financing include:

• Medical Doctor (MD)
• Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
• Doctor of Dental Science or Surgery (DSS)
• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
• Doctor of Ophthalmology (MD or DO)
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (VMD)
• Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM)
• Medical residents, fellow or interns with one of the above degrees
